CS-D5 IS LOGICAL CHOICE FOR SK SYSTEMS

SK Systems Inc is an audio sales, service and rental company based in Bohemia, NY. The company has more than 20 years experience of building and integrating all manner of sound reinforcement systems. A couple of years back, it took the digital leap with its purchase of DiGiCo D1 Live mixing consoles. Such has been the success of these desks there were no second thoughts about purchasing a DiGiCo CS-D5 as their latest addition.

“We have not looked back since we bought the D1s so, for us, the purchase of the CS-D5 has pretty much been a no-brainer,” says SK Systems’ Chief Engineer Tom Heinisch.  “We did look at all of the other popular digital offerings that have come in to play within the past few years, but we’re still satisfied with the sound and flexibility that DiGiCo brings to the digital table.

“From our company standpoint, we have become recognized as being a DiGiCo house in our region. In recent months we have had many requests for D5s for specific projects. The CS-D5 gives us two more fader banks and one more input screen than the D1, so it was the logical move for us.”

The CS-D5 has provided cost effective addition to simply add to the company’s digital console inventory. “ We didn’t have a real specific job that we purchased the surface for,” continues Tom, “but since it was delivered at the beginning of the touring season, it has been fulfilling some of the local DiGiCo tasks, while our D1s are out in tour packages. Our first deployment of the CS-D5 was on a short Donna Summer tour, which is usually a D1 project and the sessions transferred seamlessly onto the larger surface.”

SK Systems also has a MADI recorder and now offers it as part of its packages, whether they be D1 or CS-D5. “We usually record 56 tracks with Nuendo Software,” adds Tom. “Some tracked show files have been exported into user's Pro Tools projects. Since we specialize in performance audio we don't have studio facilities and at this time we prefer to offer the hardware to digitally, track the live show and have the client walk away with a hard drive filled with the show files to take the project to the next level."

“In the old days, I remember the big sweaty guy with a bunch of DA-88's or ADATs, syncing, formatting, splitting the mic signals, chasing buzzes and hums. Today it’s as simple as connecting a bnc cable and clicking the mouse.

“If I have it live on the DiGiCo, I know it's going to the box in the same quality!”
