When it was officially launched at the ProLight+Sound expo in March this year, the DiGiCo SD7 console had everyone talking and, always at the forefront of adopting new technology, rental and tour production company Major Tom was one of the first to invest in DiGiCo’s latest generation of mixing desk.
When asked why the innovative SD7 was added to its inventory, Major Tom’s Lars Brogaard commented, “It was an obvious progression. Even though the D5 is still the most powerful machine out there and will remain an integral part of our rental stock, the shows we’ve been doing recently have been getting more and more complex, so adding an SD7 was simply a natural progression.
“Not only does it sound superb, but it looks and feels cool. In fact, I think it’s the best looking machine out. And after all, we’re boys and we love our toys.”
The amazing sound that Brogaard raves about is a result of the new DiGiCo Stealth processing engine that is at the heart the SD7. This, combined with its feature set to price ratio, was a factor that was at the forefront of Brogaard’s mind when he made his purchasing decision.
As an avid D5 user, Brogaard is extremely happy with the transition to the SD7. “More than 70 percent of the user interface is the same as the D5,” he says. “But adding in the new ‘hidden tool’ technology and a multitude of other things that the DiGiCo team has learnt about and over the last six years, the SD7 is even easier to operate than the D5.”
Brogaard is pleased with his new acquisition. “I can see that I am going to have to purchase more over the coming months,” he smiles. “I’m not entirely sure what I will be using them on over the summer, but even in these early days, I’m seeing them specced on riders.”
