What with the fuel price rising nearly everyday, it’s a surprise more people aren’t trading their engine-powered boats for a wind-powered one. Mike Borne, a good friend of DiGiCo, still has his boat, but he sacrificed upgrading to a bigger boat, in favour of spending its money on two new DiGiCo consoles.
Borne set-up Allstar Audio Systems Inc., a full-service sound, lighting, video and staging company, back in 1984. Since then, the Tennessee and Florida-based venture has been adding to its inventory as often as possible and recently supplemented his existing DiGiCo stock with the extra consoles.
According to Borne, his purchasing decisions are made from relationships, observations and a comfort factor. “Several years ago while attending an AES convention in San Francisco, Big Al (Allan Nichols) introduced me to a couple of Brits in-town promoting the product lines of the company they were working for at the time. Those two Brits were none other than Bob (Doyler) Doyle, and David (Webby) Webster. They both had infectious personalities, and I had a great time hanging out with them, enjoying their British humour.”
They’ve known each other for over 14 years now, and in that time Borne purchased several products from them. “I don't think I've purchased any of those lines since Bob and David left the company they were working for then,” he adds.
“I’ve observed how Bob and David do business, and more importantly, how they treat their customers. Having done a considerable amount of business already with them, there was a huge comfort factor in my DiGiCo purchasing decision, in knowing that I'm buying from class guys like those two,” continues Borne. “There are a lot of choices out there, but at the end of the day you want to feel like you're doing business with friends that you can trust, not only on the front of spending the money, but continuing on with great customer service after the sale. Especially when you’re spending enough money to buy a house, or a larger boat!
“I do several events each year where National Touring Artists come through, and I have noticed that the bulk of them are carrying DiGiCo consoles. It's pretty obvious to me which one makes my PA system sing (in tune). There's definitely some magic in the British pre-amps that no one else has been able to capture.”
Borne has just received the DiGiCo D1 Live and D5 Live consoles, and is beginning to promote them to his clients. The D1 is based on the award-winning D5, the console that broke the mould of digital live mixing. The D1 provides the same outstanding sonic purity and much of its powerful, instantly accessible control, in an even more compact frame and at an Access All Areas price.
The benefits of both systems are equally compelling in a host of different applications: the tactile, intuitive, hands-on simplicity of the worksurface with their clear, bright backlit TFT touch screens, snapshot controlled fully automated moving-fader mixing, powerful built-in dynamics and digital effects, and complete recallability of every function.
All very good reasons for Borne to swap power on the water for power in his PA!
