D5 LIVE DESTINED FOR FINNISH FESTIVAL SEASON

Akun Tehdas, a rental company based in Finland, recently became the proud owner of a new DiGiCo D5 console. Purchased through DiGiCo’s Finish distributors Oy Hedcom, the desk will be used every weekend during this year’s summer festival season.

Akun Tehdas’ Timo Liski explains why the company went for the DiGiCo D5. “We want to offer our customers what they want,” he says. “We are a rental company that supplies festivals in the summer and corporate events and tours in the winter. The D5 covers all that perfectly.

“We went for DiGiCo not just because it is rider friendly, but it sounds great. The D5 has a digitalmulticore and it can do more inputs from the stage than most digital consoles. The V4 upgrade has turned the D5 in to a very useful monitor console. When Tim Shaxson at DiGiCo showed me the added features of the V4 at ProLight+Sound last year, I was impressed.”

In the past, Akun Tehdas has used other digital consoles. “I don’t want to compare them and DiGiCo,” commented Liski. “They are in different price ranges, so it would be like omparing Ferrari and Toyota. I think that the D5 user interface is the best of all digital consoles for festival situations - partial load is something you don’t have in most of the other consoles.”

After buying the D5, Liski had a five-hour training session at Oy Hedcom’s show room and then went on a three-week tour with the console. “I must say that it was very easy to learn and Hedcom’s support was great,” said Liski. He added, “It is very important to know that if we have any questions, both Hedcom and DiGiCo are there to help you out straight away.”

Akun Tehdas will be buying an ADK rack mount PC with MADI cards for recording purposes. “It’s an easy way to record a show and then next day you can do a sound check without a band present,” commented Tiski.

Akun Tehdas confirmed it will be supplying sound equipment to two festivals every weekend during the summer. The company has d&b J-series and Q-series loudspeaker systems and will use two D5 consoles.

Liski explains the reason behind this: “We can choose which festival needs digital and which needs analog. We can provide what our customers want. We also have TV shows that we used to do with our previous console, but now we are doing them with DiGiCo.”
