The Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, has three campuses for worship. One of these - the West Campus - is now home to two DiGiCo D5 Live audio consoles. The West Campus Worship Center seats 5,000 people and uses a Meyer M1D line array system to broadcast a variety of services to the congregation.
Featuring a worship choir and full band, the Church’s web site describes the music as: “Celebrative, blending new arrangements of classic hymns with fresh new songs of thanksgiving and praise.”
The versatility of the D5 Live was very important, as the consoles are used for Front of House and Monitors. As the Worship Center is laid out in-the-round, high quality stereo imaging was also a key requirement.
West Campus technical director Scott Belin explains why the D5 Live was his only choice: “We originally looked at the D5 for its automated recall capabilities. Versatility was highly important due to our different types of services and events,” he says. “We were impressed by the amount of information that can easily be seen and/or accessed quickly. The D5’s sound quality is extraordinarily clean, precise and warm.
“Our well-trained staff of engineers found the D5 very easy to navigate. In our opinion, you cannot find a better digital console for the money. There are more costly boards out there that, by our estimation, simply don’t compare to the D5.”
